The only person I've known to do this lived in West Virginia & while she could take her daughter home, the birth certificate technically read 'Baby Girl' until she paid to have it changed (2wks later).
Nope, it doesn’t cost. The only caveat to that is that I think if you don’t file your birth certificate within either 30 or 60 days it isn’t free and you pay like… $35? Something like that.
