Help Lily! →

A while ago I posted about a contest for families to win a wheelchair van, and talked about Lily’s story. Lily is one of triplets, born healthy and full term at home under the careful care of several midwives and an EMT team. They were happy, chubby babies in perfect health until they hit four months old caught RSV. To most of the family, this was just a case of sniffles, but for some still unknown reason it hit Lily extremely hard. She went to bed that night a little fussy, and woke up a few hours later grey and seizing. She suffered a global brain injury that nearly killed her, and dramatically changed her life.

I posted about the contest here on Tumblr to help her family get enough votes to win a van. With help from all you wonderful Tumblr people, they made it to the finals! Unfortunately, she did not win.
The average cost of a wheelchair van is 40-60k, and that is far outside the range of most families… including hers. They do not currently qualify for any grants, and insurance will not assist with the cost of an adapted vehicle. They are currently trying to raise money to help pay for the purchase of this van. This is not a luxury, this is a necessity: due to Lily’s extremely fragile bones, the repeated moving in and out of chairs, carseats, etc is literally breaking them. A wheelchair van would make her life not only significantly easier, but less painful and would put her at far less risk of breaks and fractures. If you have a few bucks in your Paypal account, please consider giving them to a good cause. :)

Lily’s story and more information are available on the above page, and it’s definitely worth the read. Lily is a beautiful girl and her family are close friends of mine, and amazing people. <3
